Downslope is narrow floodplain river bank forest. Downstream is large limestone cliff / ledge habitat w/sugar maple.;North aspect mesic slope on limestone. Rich, rocky soils support mixed forest with basswood, beech, sugar maple, and red oak. Shrub layer is dominated by paw paw. Diverse herb layer with abundant spring ephemerals. On July 26 herb cover was greatly reduced (10% total cover), most sping ephemerals were not apparent, litter cover was somewhat reduced (52%), with corresponding increase in bare soil (15%).
